History of Our Business

Originally formed in 2001 as a specialist van insurer, the Brightside Group has grown rapidly through both organic growth and acquisition. Broadening and diversifying our portfolio across markets, we achieve success through innovation, technology and pure hard work and dedication.

In 2017, Brightside was ranked #24 in Insurance Post’s Top 50 Brokers table. Our portfolio provides reach across both private and commercial insurance markets. Here’s a snapshot of our journey to date.

Brightside's evolution ...

We’re excited about what 2018 will bring, there are some exciting developments on the horizon including bringing eBike under our Brightside brand and renaming it Brightside Bike. Plus our own MGA Kitsune will be added to our portfolio.

In 2017 we launched our new brand AXA Specialist Risks in association with AXA which provides business insurance for those who might find it tricky to get insurance elsewhere. We also announced new partnerships with MoreTh>n and Santander

In 2016, we launched Brightside Van, our online insurance proposition for commercial van insurance.  We also became lead sponsor of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club

In 2015 we launched Brightside Car replacing our eCar brand.

In 2014, AnaCap Financial Partners, a specialist financial services private equity business, purchased the Brightside Group providing opportunities for growth and expansion. We also saw the introduction of Churchill Insurance as a white-labelled relationship through our Commercial Vehicle Direct brand.

2012 saw us launch One Insurance Solution - a specialist broker offering vehicle and premises insurance for private and commercial customers. One Insurance Solution enabled us to incorporate previous specialist teams into one overarching brand.

During 2011 we acquired the aggregator technology business, Quote Exchange.

In 2010 we launched eCar, our online insurance proposition for private motor insurance customers.

During 2009, we launched ProSport Insurance – an insurance proposition designed for sports people at all levels.

In 2008, we moved into the personal injury claims market through the acquisition of IQED, enabling us to offer medical screening, rehabilitation and accident investigation support services. This year also saw the introduction of eBike – a dedicated online motorcycle insurance brand – to our group of companies.

It all started back in 2001 when we were called Commercial Vehicle Direct Insurance Services Ltd, just providing specialist van insurance. We continue to trade under our Commercial Vehicle Direct brand today.
